Site Update 3/21/07

Well, we didn't make 1,000 users by the contest cutoff date, but we did add a lot of new users for a site that's only been around about a month. As a show of thanks we're handing out $100 in free upgrades to everyone who registered prior to 3/15/07. If you haven't registered yet you can get $50 in free upgrades by registering today.

In other news, we're aware that our previous efforts have had better success at reaching new job hunters than getting new job postings. We'll be starting a radio and internet advertising campaign soon that focuses on bringing people who need help to the site. This should increase the number of job postings available and the number of contacts you receive via your Workchest profile. We know there's a market out there for the type of work we're trying to recruit, it's just a matter of bringing it this way.

Thanks to everyone who registered in our first month for helping make Workchest.com great. Stay tuned here for updates and news as we grow.

Win $1,000.00 Promotion Announcement

I'm not a big fan of gimmicks. I think a good product sells itself. But there's a fact of life that, except for a few special cases, people don't like to be the first to do things. We're creatures of habit and social inertia. This presents a catch-22 for a job site. How do you get people to visit if there aren't any jobs posted? And how do you get jobs posted if no one ever visits? This isn't Field of Dreams. If you build it people may come, but that doesn't mean they'll add anything to the site. And a job site without jobs or people is...well, not that useful. Sure we could just siphon the same job database that plenty of other job sites out there use (usually ones based on the newest fad CMS), but that's not the point of Workchest.com. First of all, we want to get away from that type of reliance on big companies for job postings. Second we want to offer a community, and you can't build a community from a bunch of stale job postings that refer you to some other site.

The result?...

To help get over the initial hump and get some people registered, we're offering (at least) $1,000.00 to (at least) one lucky user if we meet 1,000 registrations by mid-March, 2007. If we get more than that we'll keep adding winners and prizes $500 dollars at a time. So if you haven't already, head over to the site and register, it's absolutely free. Odds are that your chances of winning $1000 will be somewhere around 1 in 1000 with no cost to you at all. How many times have you had that good of a chance of landing $1000 without really doing anything?

Official rules are posted here.

The Workchest.com Blog

Welcome to the Workchest.com Blog. In the future I will use this space to discuss Workchest.com related news and to get feedback on the site. For now let me say that we're very excited to be launching Workchest.com. We think it represents a new approach to connecting people, earning money, and getting things done. We've worked hard to make the site a place where users will find excellent services for free while including features you won't even find on some of the pay sites. We've also worked to solve some of the problems you run into with free sites such as excessive spam, scams, and form letters. We've spent a lot of time researching and studying what makes jobsites (for both short-term and long-term jobs) good or bad and we've tried to integrate all of the good things and leave out all of the bad things when developing Workchest.com. As you might have noticed, we're also committed to the idea that free services shouldn't mean poor customer service. We are working hard to give the absolute best service you can get on any website. We're very glad you decided to use Workchest.com and we hope you'll take time to post a comment or drop us a line in the future.

Thanks,
